Welcome to Hollywood, land of dreams. Hollywood became part of the greater Los Angeles area in 1910, and just one year later the first motion picture studio was established. Today, Hollywood is synonymous with the film industry, portraying visions of glamour and nostalgia to a degree unmatched anywhere else. Visitors to the area will be unable to miss the infamous 50-foot Hollywood sign set atop the Hollywood Hills. Hollywood Boulevard is also a destination most tourists won't want to miss. The Walk of Fame encompasses 18 blocks of large metal stars embedded in the sidewalk that honor Hollywood's finest stars of the past and the present. Mann's Chinese Theatre is another must-see attraction along Hollywood Boulevard. The theatre itself opened in 1927, the same year movie idols began leaving their hand and footprints outside the building. Today over 200 prints exist for tourists to admire.

Below are some of the many photos I have taken of our trip to Hollywood, California that I hope you enjoy viewing!  You can click on the thumbnail images to view the large images.

Mann's Chinese Theatre, formerly known as Graumann's Chinese Theatre

Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood is the most famous movie theatre in the world. Millions of visitors flock here each year, most of them drawn by its legendary forecourt with its footprints of the stars. Yet the Chinese Theatre is also a fine place to see a movie in its own right, a spectacular movie palace with a unique history.

The squares of Burt Reynolds and Gene Kelly

Drive by the Chinese Theatre on any day of the year, and you'll find hundreds of tourists milling about the famous forecourt, gazing down at the stars' footprints, handprints and autographs immortalized in the legendary cement.

El Capitan

The El Capitan began as a live theatre in 1926. It boasted a 120-foot stage, and featured plays on stage with stars that included Clark Gable, Buster Keaton, Will Rogers, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Henry Fonda, Lon Chaney, Jr., and Jason Robards. It was a "legitimate" theatre until 1942, when it became the Paramount movie theatre. It was the site of the world premiere of "Citizen Kane."

Today, Pacific's El Capitan shows new, first-run movies from the Walt Disney / Touchstone studios. In fact, all of Disney's recent major animated classics, such as "The Lion King," "Aladdin," "Beauty & the Beast," "Hercules," and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" have had their world premieres at this theatre.

Capital Records

Capitol Records was the first record company based on the West Coast, and has promoted such acts as The Beatles, the Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra, Bob Seger, Duran Duran, Bonnie Raitt, Robbie Robertson, Steve Miller and Tina Turner .Since 1954, the company has been located in the world's first circular office building. There is a lack of consensus about whether or not this unique, 13-story high-rise was purposely designed to resemble a stack of records topped by a stylus, but few would deny that it certainly does.

I hope you've enjoyed my pictures of Hollywood.  If you really like something, click on the email below to let me know!

I'll be adding more pics as soon as I get the chance to have them scanned in.
